Techniques for Stink Bug Elimination

The brown marmorated stink bug is a species of stink bug that is turning into a huge problem for entomologists and people in the agriculture industry. It was introduced to the United States from China in the middle of the 1990’s. Since then the insect can be found all over Pennsylvania and it is moving into the neighboring states. The insect eats plants and could take a severe toll on the agriculture industry.
Interestingly enough, the key might come in the form of another animal that many people felt was invasive and had pest-like qualities.
One of the more effective forms of elimination that the experts have managed to find is the European starling. This bird is one of the few animals that do not seem to be offended by the insects' smell. Since a single adult starling can eat several stink bugs throughout the course of the day, it is in the interest of the farmers to try to attract as many of the starlings to their property as they can.
Since the bugs are going to provide an adequate supply of food for the starling, the only thing the farmer needs to do is make sure that the starling has space to nest. Nesting boxes are an excellent place to begin. The starlings like to be near people, so hanging the boxes in the yard or close to the barn is always an excellent idea.
The boxes should be placed no lower than six feet off the ground and no higher than sixty. When the young starlings have parentally left the nest, the box will have to be cleaned in order to keep the birds healthy. Some farmers like to hand the nesting boxes on their wooden fence posts, near the field that the insect numbers are the worst.
